R&D Projects

Powerpoint Engineering undertake R&D projects. With our in-house expertise and detailed product knowledge, our team provide innovative solutions for our customers when the need arises. R&D initiatives in this company are co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Enterprise Ireland under the Border, Midland and Western Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020. The aim of these R&D projects is to drive the development of the company. To give you a flavour of some of the projects, see the list below:

ARC SWITCH DEVICE

Powerpoint Engineering is researching and developing a device to switch high voltage or low voltage circuit breakers remotely. This device will remove the individual from the arc flash blast zone thereby preventing serious injury or even death to the operator. At present, there is no solution in the market place. The proposed solution is to create a secure transmitter circuit with secure key rolling code so that it is tuned to the receiver circuit this will control and activate two circuits that can switch resistive and inductive loads ac from 0 v to 230 v AC and DC 0 v to 230 v DC up to 6 Amp.
This R&D initiative is being co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Enterprise Ireland under the Border, Midland and Western Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020.

PROVING UNIT DEVICE

Powerpoint Engineering is researching and developing a proving unit device that will enable the safe proving of the high voltage detector. At present, there is no solution in the market place. The proposed solution is to create a proving unit that will enable an operator to test their high voltage detector at a high voltage but with low energy. The operator can check the circuit that is going to be worked on has no voltage present and is safe to work on. The operator then checks that the voltage probe is still working and come backs and proves at the proving unit. This R&D initiative is being co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Enterprise Ireland under the Border, Midland and Western Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020.

MECHMINDER – A MONITORING SYSTEM FOR CIRCUIT BREAKERS

Powerpoint Engineering researched and developed a smart integrated Monitoring System for Medium to High Voltage Circuit Breakers in the 10kV, 20kv or 38kV range which can be incorporated into power systems that feed between 2,000 and 4,000 customers. The MechMinder will incorporate a ‘condition based’ maintenance approach whereby the monitoring system will be continually extracting performance information from the Circuit Breaker, triggering alarms based on programmed parameters.

DAMPER VALVE LOCKOUT DEVICE

Powerpoint Engineering researched and developed a lockout device that enables industrial butterfly damper valves to be locked out in a particular position to ensure that the damper valve cannot be moved until required. These industrial butterfly damper valves are typically used by manufacturers in the pharma, medical devices and petro chemical industries where blower and exhaust air transfer systems are used in the manufacturing process. This lockout device enables these valves to be locked out in a particular position thereby reducing the high impact of downtime and costs if a valve is moved even slightly out of position.

This R&D initiative was co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Enterprise Ireland under the Border, Midland and Western Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020.

Key Manager

A Key Manager has been co-funded in this company by the European Regional Development Fund and Enterprise Ireland under the Border, Midland and Western Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020. The aim of this project was to recruit a Key Manager who would bring the necessary skills into the company which would be critical to future growth. This Key Manager was recruited and is now contributing to improvements in company productivity and to changes in output to meet defined market requirements.
