Battery Impedance Testing

Battery-Impedence-Testing-260x300

Powerpoint Engineering is the main Irish provider of the Battery Impedance Testing & Specific Gravity Testing. Thanks to our over 25 year-long experience of working on Medium and High voltage systems we can honestly admit that our expertise in these area is built on solid grounds. We also have extensive experience in use of the latest technology from such manufacturers as Megger & Anton Paar. Thus we offer you an unbeatable quality of service.

Battery Impedance Testing is a perfect solution in all those places where any interruptions should be avoided. Our testing service can save you money associated with such interruptions! Unlike Battery Discharge Testing which turns to be expensive and time-consuming (the whole process takes up to 4 days!), the Battery Impedance Testing is an non-intrusive action that is carried out on live working battery system (there’s no need to switch the equipment off and allows to avoid interruptions). A testing operation on 200V Battery system takes approximately 4 hours only.

Where to use Battery Impedance & Specific Gravity Testing service?

There are some significant benefits of Battery Impedance & Specific Gravity Testing. Battery operation is required everywhere no power shortage can be present. There is a long list of battery system applications, some of these are highlighted below:

  • Electric generating stations and substations (used for protection and control of switches and relays)
  • Telephone systems to ensure support of phone services, especially an emergency services
  • Industrial applications (for general protection and control)
  • Back up of computers, servers, extensively used in financial sector
  • Other business information systems

What is Battery Impedance Testing?

Battery Impedance Testing is an internal resistance test. In the DC Battery Systems, the impedance indicates the general condition of the batteries that is tested without stressing the whole system and the batteries themselves. Because it tests the whole system between two terminal plates of the battery it is ideal for spotting any weaknesses in cells.

In simple words – the impedance is determined by an application of an AC current signal, measuring the AC voltage drop across the battery and then calculating the impedance by use of the Ohm’s Law. As the battery gets older, the internal impedance increases. By measuring the impedance it is possible to determine the condition of the battery or a specific cell within a battery.

Technologies Used in Battery Impedance & Specific Gravity Testing Measurement

  • For Battery Impedance Testing:
The Megger BITE3 Battery Impedance Test Equipment used for Battery Impedance Testing. This Megger test equipment determines the health of lead-acid cells up to 2000 Ah by taking measurements of the most important battery parameters. The BITE3 measures cell impedance, an internalohmic test, cell voltage, intercell connection resistance and ripple current.
  • For Specific Gravity Testing:
The Anton Paar DMA35 is the new generation of Anton Paar portable density meters, using the oscillating U-tube technology. DMA 35 measures the density and density-related values of your sample and shows the measuring results within seconds on the large display, ready for storage, printoutor export to a PC.
