Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) ensures that portable electrical equipment is maintained in a safe condition, so as to avoid danger and hazard to persons or property. PAT Testing is regulated by the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 in Ireland. This legislation is implemented under Statutory Instrument S.I. No.299 of 2007, which came into force in November 2007.
The aim of Portable Appliance Testing training courses, are to ensure that training candidates are familiar with PAT Testing procedures and the use of an PAT Tester, in order to apply tests safely and correctly to portable electrical appliances.
